FINDING THE RIGHT SPOT

BY JANICE LEVY

This illustrated exploration of the adoption journey is a story for all children who cannot live with their biological parents, regardless of the circumstances. Author Janice Levy emphasizes loyalty, hope, disappointment, love, sadness, and anger–emotions that most every child experiences in transitioning away from life with his or her biological parents.

Levy concludes Finding the Right Spot with material written by a child psychologist for caregivers on dealing with the emotional needs of children whose biological parents can no longer care for them. Young adoptees may benefit from reviewing this material with a therapist or social worker, discussing it with their adoptive parents, or from revisiting it alone later in life.

Throughout the book, illustrator Whitney Martin’s illustrations add a sense of narrative depth, and help children follow along with the psychological concepts discussed in the text. (Paperback, 48 pages, 2004, ages 4-8)

“The impact of the story is magnified a thousand-fold by the wonderful, evocative drawings. Whitney Martin has done well.”

DR. BOB RICH, PSYCHOLOGIST

“The illustrations set a mood of seriousness, but not overwhelming. Colorful and detail rich, Martin’s work is the perfect compliment to this wonderful story.”
